Every year Mote Marine Laboratory’s Center for Digital Learning reaches more than 17,000 students and teachers through its SeaTrek Distance Learning programs, inspiring a new generation of marine scientists and enthusiasts. SeaTrek Programs use interactive television and Internet technology to deliver live, science programming to students across the country. A major focus is K-12 classrooms.
The Internship is an intensive 12-14 week commitment, where most work weeks run Monday – Friday on an 8 – 5 schedule, with possible weekend or evening work. Interns in this program assist primarily with studio setup and behind-the-scenes operations. Limited on-camera and independent media production may also be conducted. Potential Interns should have an interest in science education and a background in multimedia.
Interns will receive thorough training in marine science topics, multimedia applications and operations, and the work of Mote Marine Laboratory. SeaTrek Distance Learning Interns will become more comfortable and confident teachers/presenters, gain curriculum and multimedia development experience, and make valuable professional contacts for future scientific and/or educational endeavors. Efforts will be made where Interns may have some limited opportunities to shadow or visit with Mote research and/or aquarium staff.
This internship is typically available between September and April. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
